    I tried this, burnt out 2 LEDs before I added a 470 ohm resistor to one of the led legs (3 volt LEDS don't like seeing a full 12 volts, they die). Light would dim at 10 volts, out completely at 11. Still too low for measuring car voltage. Ended up stacking two 470s and a 510 in series (totaling 1450 ohms) to keep it lit until it went out completely at 13 volts. Now I can be assured my alternator is charging the battery properly when engine is running. I'll install this next to the voltage gauge (because wife doesn't understand how to read gauges).
